We decided to visit the Happy Hangar after reading another Yelper's review. It is a simple yet adequate place to eat located at a small airport - as in planes with props only - which only adds to the charm. Their are 2 large picnic tables and rocking chairs on the covered porch. Although it's not right off the interstate, it's only about a mile off and worth the stop. Nice break for kids and adults. I had the 2 egg breakfast. They had no problem subbing sliced tomatoes for home fries for me along with a side of biscuit and gravy. All were solid. My hubby had the burger (generally we don't eat meat, so this a huge endorsement in itself) and said it was delicious. They serve breakfast all day too! As an added bonus, a helicopter took off right next to the porch whole we were dining. Pretty cool.

After three visits, we're fans. Small airports used to be friendly places to take the kids, and hang out and watch the small planes shoot "touch and goes", before TSA mentality appeared. Most nowadays are circled by chain link fences, and can be intimidating. Visiting here is like going back in time, in a very good way. Easy to find, follow the airport signs, park in the lot by the hangars, and walk up on the shaded porch. Eat inside if it's hot, or sit at the picnic tables outside. Yesterday the entertainment was a couple of Sandhill cranes and their young offspring. The staff were feeding them from their hands. The food is terrific and the servers are without exception very enthusiastic and accommodating. Try the tarragon chicken salad sandwich on wheatberry bread. Comes with house made potato chips and ranch dip, if you wish. Breakfast is a bargain, and served anytime. Burgers are great, and fries or rings can be subbed for a small upcharge. Iced tea tastes fresh brewed. Roy & Becky

Newly opened in my neck of the woods, I was eager to try this place out. It's right across the "runway" from my Crossfit Box (Crossfit Aero) in Pasco County. What I loved most about my experience was the friendly staff, clean space, amazing view of the runway and the homemade food. My boyfriend enjoyed their $100 burger while I enjoyed the classic cuban. I love how close to home it is and can't wait to visit again. We arrived 10 minutes to their closing time and they instantly welcomed us in and said it was no problem to serve us. I then witnessed them take in another 3 tables after us, well after their closing time - all with a smile and a kind welcome.

Love this runway side café that Tampa North Executive Airport opened recently! A casual, gathering place meant for dining and conversation, this is not in and out so plan to be there a little while for breakfast or lunch. They are open 7-2, but check the listing for variations. Big portions of 24 hour breakfast or lunch and dinner entrees were all good. The Stearman's breakfast , $5,was very large and the Huge Hanger Breakfast, $8,50, even bigger. Two hungry teens were very full afterward which is a pretty good test. The Bacon Cheeseburger, about $6, was good as well. Most entrees ranged from about $8-15 and included sandwiches and salads. The Cajun fries were the finishing touch - I definitely recommend them, crunchy and flavorful! There is a nice inside café with small and large tables as well as a couple of outside large picnic style tables directly on the porch by the runway. Its very fun to watch the planes and ultra-lights coming and going. This place seems to be drawing a popular following as we saw quite a few fly-in guest meeting up, having a meal and good conversation and then taking off again for weekend. Its great to see the airport so active and drawing a dining crowd and fly-ins! Saturday mornings certainly have a steady stream coming and going. I'll be back! A tip: the café is located on the runway side of the airport so can be a little difficult to find the first time. Park at the airport and walk toward the main building and runway. When you get to the runway you will see a large, open porch. Go up on the porch runway side and you will find the main entrance.

Awesome place! Driving through town and decided to make a special breakfast stop. You eat right off the runway and there are even airplanes parked out front (with an open cockpit bi-plane the kids can climb into). Don't miss it!

I've been to the Happy Hangar Cafe several times since it opened. The food is consistently of good quality, and backs up the staff's statement that nothing is brought into the kitchen pre-made to be warmed and served. Everything is fresh, and though there are naturally some things you will like better than others, it is simply because of differing tastes and not because the food isn't prepared with care and excellence. I'm a Tampa native and have had Cuban sandwiches from all the big-name places and a lot of the little names, too, and I highly recommend that you try the Hangar's Cuban sandwich. It is among the best I've had, easily making it into my personal "top 3." My kids love that they serve breakfast all day, and the pancakes are one of their favorite dishes. My teenage son often pushes back with food still on his plate, so I guess you could say the serving size is ample. :) Probably the only negative thing I could say is that the Happy Hangar Cafe is not the kind of place that you zip into and out of quickly. The staff provides consistently good service, but with a focus on quality, not speed. On a couple of occasions, I've forgotten this and popped in for a "quick bite," and become frustrated with the service. However, I blame this on myself, not the staff. Instead, I love the Cafe for those times when I want to have breakfast or lunch with someone and really talk. The casual and laid-back atmosphere makes that possible. If I need something quick when I'm on the run, that's why they make "fast food." I will definitely be back in this 'Hangar.

First time here for lunch. Wife had omelet and was happy with it. I had the cuban sandwich and it's one of the best. We'll be back soon.

Great breakfast / lunch spot right off the highway. Welcoming staff and the airplanes were a special treat. Highly worth a visit.

Great breakfast joint - good food at a fair price. The Pancakes are HUGE - all you need is 2. The huge hanger breakfast is great. The service is good too. You can eat - family of 3 for $20 bucks - and watch the planes take off and land.

I just had my second visit to the Happy Hanger Cafe. On our first visit my wife and I arrived to find they were closed (scheduled day to be closed). They insisted that we stay and eat. I'm a self proclaimed Cuban sandwich connoisseur. Their Cuban is above average - good. But, in all fairness, I am a Cuban sandwich elitist. I was overwhelmed by the hospitality. On our second visit, we took our two young sons. Again the food was good - very good. The service was exceptional and personal. Carolyn, who I assume is an owner, allowed my two young sons to inspect and pose with a bi wing airplane, offered a toy airplane to each of my sons, and made sure we were well taken care of. Even if the food were not good, I would be so impressed with the service and hospitality that I would still become a regular. Fortunately, they have great atmosphere (next to the runway), exceptional hospitality, good food, and good pricing. As an added bonus, the regulars were happy to answer my sons' questions. I look forward to seeing you there.

Nice hidden jewel in the Wesley Chapel area. Great food, good service and a unique view watching planes take off while you eat breakfast.

What a novel concept! You've probably noticed the small airport located off the side of I-275 near Wesley Chapel, or maybe you live in Wesley Chapel/Lutz and you've seen the planes flying low near your house. But what you might not know is that they've put a cute little cafe right on their runway! The food is delicious, serving breakfast and lunch every day until 2pm. I've had a burger and an omelette, and was very pleased with both. The biscuits are delicious and the gravy was a bit salty, but very good. Besides the food being delicious, the big draw is that you get to watch planes take off and land. If you have children, they will love it! Just make sure to sit outside. On the weekend, you'll see a lot more, including an adorable biplane that goes up and down constantly. It almost looked like they were giving rides, but I'm not sure how it related to the cafe. Some other customers there told us that when it's parked they allow kids to climb on it. I didn't see that happening on any of our visits. My only warning to you is that service is NOT fast, and not that great. The girls try, but every time we've been it's been fairly busy and only one or two people there. The last time, even the breakfast cook had left, so we only had the option of lunch (but it was close to closing time). The servers are friendly, just not that prompt and food takes awhile to cook. Keep this in mind and you'll enjoy your visit!

Every day I pass the "Happy Hangar Cafe" signs on State Road 54. Today we decided to investigate and see what the cafe had to offer. I knew that the North Tampa Aero Park was located off of Birdsong Boulevard but did not know they had a restaurant. This place is not easy to locate. Seems as if you are going in circles but you will eventually find it at the very end of the runway of the flight center. You know you are going in the right direction when you see homes built on the runway with their planes parked in the back of the house (that was a first for me). The cafe looks brand new. There were not many people dining -- seems to be a hidden treasure. They are open Tuesday through Sunday from 7 am to 2 pm. Serve breakfast all day but also serve appetizers and lunch. Hubby and I were instantly greeted by a very nice server named Kathy. Told her this was our first visit and she explained the menu to us. We made a suggestion that the there needed to be better signage to find the cafe. She says the owner is working on it and hopefully they have signs up in the near future. We ordered the Huge Hangar Breakfast (3 eggs any style, 2 strips of bacon, 2 sausage patties, a slice of ham, home fries and/or grits, and a freshly baked biscuit with sausage gravy). Enough for two people to share. Everything was pipping hot and fresh. I was not too crazy about the sausage gravy -- was a little salty for my taste, but overall a very good meal. This area of Wesley Chapel/Lutz needs some more breakfast options and we found our new "go to" restaurant to satisfy our morning hunger. We will be back -- also want to try their lunch menu.

Absolutely the worst place I've been to in years. Was told I could sit anywhere I wanted and they should have also mentioned I wasn't going to get served. Waited 10 minutes and someone took my drink offer. Waited and waited but coffee never came. Walked out when the coffee I ordered was given to couple who just walked in. I hate to say it but if you're not white don't bother going here. I will let my other disable veterans know about what happen today!

Extremely terrible service. It took a long time for someone to acknowledge me when I arrived and then the lady behind the counter wanted to seat me at a table with no view. The restaurant had 3 other parties at most and there were several window views available! I wanted to sit and check out the planes and what not.. I had to tell my waitress I preferred a window seat.. She then allowed me to sit at the nearest window seat with a view. I sat for a few minutes until my waitress came back to offer me coffee but no silverware.. I asked for milk for my coffee and she told me I could use the creamer on the table. I wasn't feeling too good about this establishment after that point and decided to just overlook everything that has happened thus far. She returned to take my order and I ordered a simple scrambled eggs, biscuit and bacon. A few minutes go by and I am thinking I am to receive a fresh cooked breakfast but NO. She did not bring silverware and I had to remind her.. How am I supposed to eat? She finally brings me silverware and I begin to eat. The eggs were cold and I refused to eat it so I asked another waitress to take it away because of my dissatisfaction. I walked up to the counter where the older lady is instructing the waitresses on what to do. She was having a conversation with someone and acted as if I wasn't there until I finally said something to get her attention. I told her I was unhappy with the food and just wanted to pay for the coffee I ordered and she was extremely sarcastic to me. Not showing any empathy whatsoever. I was beyond shocked at the treatment I was receiving and couldn't believe she works in customer service. She didn't take my money and shoo'd me off. I will NEVER return to this establishment due to the way I was treated. This cafe was conveniently located minutes away from my home but I'll drive a few minutes extra to another establishment who will appreciate my business.

We stumbled upon this awesome breakfast joint when we saw how packed Cracker Barrel was on a Sunday. We literally almost had the place to ourselves when we first walked in. Great attentive service. Food was fresh, hot and delicious. I had corned beef hash and hash browns. Huge portion for a great price. If you don't know where this is find it fast...just head to the airport. It's a hidden gem! We will be back for the Flights of Fancy Balloon Fest and on Sunday's when the commercial places are packed!

First, the food - this is a greasy spoon. That's totally fine, but there are extremely limited healthy choices (they had a salad or two). The server was extremely nice and prompt. Kids loved climbing in the little plane they have outside. I think it's fine if you understand fully what you're getting - it's cheap, quick and good for the kiddos.

I love this place! I'm based at the field and this has become our usual "hang out" for good company, breakfast and lots of coffee prior to the day's flight or puttering around the hangar. Breakfast is outstanding, the Cuban sandwich makes for a great lunch and the service is always delivered with a smile. Could not ask for more in an airport café, it has been a very welcomed addition to Tampa North Aero Park (X39).

We found the Happy Hangar on our way to Dade City (read: wasteland for foodies). The food is typical diner food- no real maple syrup (only high fructose corn syrup), mostly tasteless eggs (NOT all natural), frozen commercial potato cubes, and standard fare pork products. The biscuits were passable but not what I'd consider outstanding. In sum, better than starving. BUT, this place is literally located on the runway of the Tampa North Aero Park. On a beautiful morning like today it's pretty fantastic to be able to watch the small planes take off- especially for airplane junkies like my husband, and budding airplane junkies like our 3 year old daughter. I'd guess we'll be back.

we've been meaning to try it, finally gave it a go this morning as we didn't have out daughters with us. I got the western omelet with grits and a biscuit, my husband got their biscuits & gravy, eggs and bacon. my omelet... meh, okay with the inside bits being cold, grits were great, and the biscuit was good (def home made). the biscuits & gravy were really good! stole 2 bites from my husband to be sure I liked them ;) saw another table get a Cuban sandwich while we were waiting for our food and it looked like a great lunch option - looks lie they do them right, pressing them to get a nice crunch :) we will be back. great little place to bring kids, has a couple of picnic tables up on the porch, right next to the runway and a bunch of parked planes.

Decent selection of breakfast food that gets 3 stars. Giving an extra star for the fun factor of eating while watching small planes take-off & land. Staff was friendly. Will be back.

Pookie and I took our grand daughter for brunch and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere and the food were delicious. Very good quality and presentation outstanding customer service. I think we have found a special place for us to bring our family. We are gonna be looking forward to bringing our kids and grand kids here . It is worth dealing with the difficulty we had in finding the place. We finally found it after using google maps. I must finish by saying it was worth it. Thank you guys A+ and outstanding. GP

We decided to give The Happy Hangar Cafe a try. We are so glad we did. The place is a little tricky to find but worth it. Everyone was very nice. The food was great. We tried an omelette with ham, onions & cheese. It was quite tasty!! The pancakes were massive and quite yummy!! And my favorite were their home made biscuits they were awesome. Light & fluffy & they lightly toasted it...it was delicious!!! We will surely be back!
